Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is an ASNT certified non-destructive testing method.
Magnetic Particle Inspection is used to detect subsurface ands near surface flaws in metals. It can be used to inspect many different parts such as forgings, weldments, castings, etc. Our Ardrox brand machine utilizes both parallel (contact-to-contact)and perpendicular (coil) DC magnetization methods to find indications of irregularities in parts containing ferrous material (materials containing iron or iron compounds). The magnetization draws in microscopic phosphorescent particles into irregularities which can then be found by use of ultraviolet light. Irregularities are then analyzed to determine if they will be detrimental to the part or its function.
Magnetic Particle Inspection is preferred for its subsurface detection capability
Amperage can be regulated between 0.01 and 6000 + amperes. Also, our machine is capable of an automatic demagnetization sequence, thus eliminating the need for a separate demagnetize.
To assist customers in deciding the viability of parts with known irregular indications, we are able to couple our MPI process with our Karl Deutche Depth Meter, which can measure the angle and depth of virtually any indication within .001" (0.1 mm).
